outline
Have you ever matched up the familiar round earth with the ground below your feet?
Though we live on the surface of the round earth, wefre unable to grasp it with our senses.
This work makes it possible.
Here you can see the intersection between the line extending from the movable device and the earth, and thereby rediscover your own location on the earthfs surface, and indirectly understand the tilt of the gigantic sphere/globe expanding below.
When your imagination reaches the opposite side of the earth below your feet, the virtual-looking earth on the screen synchronizes with the earth below, enabling you to experience an unprecedented reality.
Though few of us have actually seen the earth from space, we know how the earth looks earth from satellite photos and other technology, and from our memories. But in this work you deliberately look at the earth below your feet, from within the earthfs sphere | with our feet still anchored firmly to the ground.
The experience of pointing through the earthfs surface has the potential of changing the participantfs awareness -- it might change your perspective on news from Iraq, or enhance your excitement before traveling. But this piece doesnft force you to feel anything in particular. As participants have commented, approaching it as a pure attraction lets you interact with it more lightheartedly, and the earth depicted is the minimum size with as little detail as possible. Anything participants experience or think about beyond that point is up to each individual.
This work is a trigger for your imagination, without any particular message. It just proposes a new perspective/cross section that contrasts with the everyday, through suggesting a physical relationship between the participantfs body and the earth depicted at an unusual scale.
